Airline Approved Carriers

Sunday, December 7th, 2008

If you really want to take your pet with you for a trip, then you need to have a suitable pet carrier for the trip. You could just go with a standard carrying crate, but I bet you’ll want your pets to travel in a much higher level of comfort. The good news is that there are plenty of carriers available that will be able to stand up to the rigors of air travel while providing.

The first step is to go online and find a good niche store that has a full catalog of carriers. You will want to see everything that they have to offer before you commit. Most even have specific sections for airline pet carriers, so it should be easy to find what you need. Once the catalog is up, then it’s just a matter of picking your color and ensuring that the size is just right. You will also want to make sure that it has a comfortable interior for your pet, but that should be standard for most of the better carriers.

After you pick one, it’s basically done. Just order and pay. Your carrier will arrive soon and you’ll be ready to do. You may wish to confirm that it’s an airline approved carrier before you buy. It should only take a phone call to double check. Everything else should be fine though.

Have you used Whole Meals for Dogs?

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Just wondering if how I am feeding my dogs is good.

I feed them a whole meal bone in the am and then give them 1 1/2 cups of Avoderm at night. which is = to 3 cups. Which is what my dog Duke should eat.

Nope too much junk in them, fillers, artificial ingredients and my two dogs I gave it to, would not eat it….and then tried on some of the kennel dogs, only one out of 14 would touch it, and then only a couple of bites…..

so I will stick with my dog food and broiled boneless chicken and boiled London Broil for the protein for all my dogs….no need to mess with success…

—–

I tried a trial size of these, and although my dogs liked them,I would only use them as an occasional treat,as they contain too much filler. The ingredients are not good at all for everyday meals. As you can see,it is made mostly of grains,by-products and it also has propylene glycol.

Ingredients: Rice Flour, Chicken By-Product Meal (a Natural Source of Glucosamine and Chondroitin), Meat Broth, Wheat Flour, Glycerin, Corn Gluten Meal, Corn Flour, Vegetable Oil (Source of Omega 6 Fatty Acid), Soy Protein Isolate, Propylene Glycol, Weat Gluten, Cellulose Powder, Potassium Chloride, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Malted Barley, Calcium Carbonate, Dried Peas, Salt, Potassium Sorbate (a Preservative), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, dl-Alpha Tocopherol Acetate [Source of Vitamin E], L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate [Source of Vitamin C], Riboflavin Supplement [Vitamin B2], Vitamin A Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supplement, d-Calcium Pantothenate, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamins B1], Vitamin B12 Supplement, Biotin), Dried Carrots, Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Potassium Iodide).

I could tell whole meals where crap. And my trip t the online petsmart store confirmed t. The first ingredient is rice flour followed by chicken by product meal followed by a bunch of wheat products. Some food huh

Can a vanilla candle calm cats?

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I’ve noticed lately that when I burn a strongly scented vanilla candle, both of my cats seem calmer and more affectionate. Is this just my imagination or does the scent of vanilla calm animals the same way it calms humans?

Yes it can calm them. So can lavender scents.

——–

Lavender has been known to do that. Vanilla doesn’t do anything for me except cause headaches.

Be careful with that candle! My cat got too close to a candle one day and singed her whiskers. It didn’t hurt her and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t chuckle just a little bit at her new one-inch whiskers but still.

What veggies to feed my oranda?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

I’ve heard of oranges peas & cucumber but what else he doesn’t like carrots and he doesn’t like lettuce either…so what else…?

Blanched romaine lettuce, thawed frozen spinach (but be careful not to put too much- this can make a mess of your filter), slices or wheels of oranges or kiwi

Shelled thawed peas are great and help prevent constipation and swim bladder

I found a good list here:

Goldfish swimbladder question can help save a life?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I have a black moor fancy goldfish and it looks like it has trouble swimming down. But im not sure ive been watching it and whenever it swims down half way it goes up slowly and tries to swim down buttt the weird thing is whenever i leave and come back 30 mins later its laying on the bottom of the tank easily and not floating up do you think it has swim bladder if it does it looks like a minor small swimbladder problem how to get rid of the problem?

Fast both of your fish for 3 days. This will allow any compacted food to purge from your fish. Upon resuming feeding, feed frozen brine shrimp or a couple of peas that have been smashed. Only allow your fish to eat for 3 minutes and remove uneaten food immediately. I strongly recommend only feeding goldfish once daily and skipping a day in between feedings. This will encourage the natural bottom feeding/scavenging instinct and will prevent future swim bladder compactiion.

Nice job on the 30 gallon tank for the 2 goldfish. I’d suggest a 25% water change as your calico looks like it’s gulping air from the surface. That usually indicates it’s time for a water change.

Worms and Baby?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2008

I just found out my cat has worms (saw one that had crawled out!!!) I can’t take him to the vet until tomorrow. Is there any way worms can harm my 6 month old son if they get in the carpet?

The tapeworm segment would have to be eaten before it died, and these things dry out pretty fast so they don’t last long even in a carpet.

——–

I don’t believe they will hurt him, but just to be sure, vacuum well, and keep the baby on a clean blanket or playpen until the worms are cleared from the cat’s system. Even though they shouldn’t hurt the baby, it would still be better to keep the floor clean, just because of where the worms do come from, you don’t want your son touching fecal bacteria.

How do tame an aggressive rabbit?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

She probably needs spaying, this is not her fault.. Please read up on basic rabbit care in here:

while I turn in the unhelpful posters that “answered” your note in infantile and unsavory way-guess they have no clue, so of course, blame the animal.
Question: If you locked up a cat in a cage, how would you expect that animal to behave? Rabbits often times are locked up with minimal contact, and very boring life.
After awhile they get to where they know that nothing else is theirs, so they get protective over their jail cell. This is called “cage protectiveness”….rabbits are very smart, usually get into less trouble than a house cat, you can rabbit proof a room with very little expense or trouble and have a happier pet.
They should not be unhappy as yours seems to be, so I am just guessing that a huge part of the problem is that she is not spayed. Get that done, read how to properly care for her, treat her with consideration: instead of “what you can get” think of what you have to offer her. I am very glad you took time to reach out and ask before just dumping at a shelter, as they are so full they are in many places euthanizing after very short holding times. Might be due to the slow econonmy, but rabbits (along with other pets) are being dumped in alarming numbers in parks (slow scary deaths by animals, cars, cruel people,& exposure) and in overcrowded shelters, which most times do pts in a humane way. (not always tho…rabbits are still treated poorly, as the other answerers on this page will show) I sure hope that the rabbit references help you to help your rabbit.

What kind of fish should i get?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

1.      shave it.

2.      I know this isn’t a fish, but you should consider getting African mini-frogs. They are fun to watch and play well with other fish.

3.      Maybe 3 or 4 African cichlids. 20 is too small for Dempseys and large cichlids.

4.      Damzels

5.      female betta are nice, you can find them in pretty colors if you look hard, and lots of little guys like neons and tetras are pretty easy

6.      I don’t know much about fish. But one thing I do know is get fish that can mix together. They say three of the same.

7.      The cute little mini sharks.

8.      cichlids are mean dont get them!!!! i have some danio’s platty’s those are the ones i have had the best luck with. but make sure to get a succker fish or and algi eater also… snails aren’t that great.

Do u find cats scary?

Saturday, December 1st, 2007
  1. No I don’t and you wouldn’t either if you gave them a chance.
  2. OMG yes! and cat ppl get insulted when i get scared of their cats

as to why? i dunno something in the eyes, the way they strut…the whole superstition thing about them…..both my siblings claim they saw a black cat in their room when they awoke in the mid of the night and everything in the house was locked…both were on different occasions

  3. I definitely find cats creepy. I couldn’t tell you exactly why, but I think it is because they remind me of evil magic( you know black cats and witches).
  4. I love cats! Had cats all my life! Never had a dog. Cats are so cool!
  5. I find them intriguing! You never know what is going on in that head. And their eyes are just stunning! It is kinda creepy when they jump up and do the crazy cat run without any provocation, but hell, it’s really entertaining after the initial startle.
  6. No I like cats but some can look scary if they have no ears or something or those hairless cats, those are creepy.
  7. shave it.
  8. No not at all….but I know someone who is…..lol
